Serving Trailer Estates Since 2008

OUR MISSION

Manatee County - Trailer Estates - Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is an organization whose primary goal is the support of local disaster planning and emergency preparedness for TE residents and established CERT volunteers. The association works with local, state and national CERT teams and programs. It also participates in the annual statewide conference where CERT teams are able to learn from subject matter experts on a variety of pertinent and interesting topics that enhance individual and team performance. Team members also have the opportunity to drill and network with like motivated CERT graduates from all over the state of Florida.

This web site will serve as a clearinghouse resource for all CERT activities within Trailer Estates. The aim is to include timely and useful CERT information from a variety of sources. Also, it is a location where TE CERT members can share their news, events, and pictures with others.

ABOUT US

The Trailer Estates CERT group is comprised of individuals who are your neighbors trained in procedures established by FEMA under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. They are the first to respond in a disaster. The CERT program was first developed in 1985 after the Los Angeles Fire Department examined civilian responses to disasters in Mexico and Japan. It has grown to what it is today. The first team of Trailer Estates CERT members assembled in 2008 and have continually served the community. In times of critical needs community volunteers can help in areas that will assist in their CERT efforts to help neighbors.

Your CERT team members are trained in the following areas:

  • Disaster Preparedness
  • Medical Operations and First Aid
  • Disaster Psychology
  • Fire Safety and Utility Controls
  • Light Search and Rescue Operations
  • Terrorism

The training includes classroom, training situations and hands-on scenarios. There are higher levels of training for CERT members and a few residents of Trailer Estates have continued their education. Some have even been trained as instructors to train new Trailer Estates CERT members and trainees in other communities.

“In an emergency, you will not rise to the occasion...
...You will default to your level of training!”

HOW CERT PROTECTS THE RESIDENTS OF TRAILER ESTATES

CERT members help residents prepare for hurricanes and assist fire, police, utilites and the American Red Cross when a disaster of any proportion hits the community. They are the first to respond and circulate the community to assess property damage and harm to physical health. Members are assigned in pairs to a zone and will report to a central command in Trailer Estates. Central command will request assistance through the Emergency Operations Center of Manatee County.

CERT helps the community by promoting its special needs: Medical Shelter Application and those with special needs: Transportation Only Application. CERT will also make arrangements for those who need to house their pets while evacuating to a shelter that does not accept pets.

It is our hope we never have to mobilize but we will be there in times of emergency.
